Down Home Girl began just as the name implies, a young girl crafting at home. As a child I learned to sew, among my favorites to make were little pillow sachets. Made from my mother's sewing scraps and stuffed with just about any fiber I could find, from dried flowers to toilet paper. I also loved to make little tinctures of lilac water or blend fresh blooms with lotions and shampoos.
Not much has changed, however I like to think my creations have become a little more sophisticated, though simple still. I continue to salvage, forage, use natural materials, and little to no packaging. Many items I make in order to replace more conventional ones with safer, sustainable options. My place in life right now is as a mother of five so I have a lot of fun making whimsical, imaginative clothing and toys that can be passed down and endure years of play. I am very grateful to my customers, family and friends who have and continue to support me in my endeavors, allowing me to do what I love and be "down home" with the ones I love!
